When loaded with fuel and gear, bass boats and their trailers can weigh over 3500 lbs. You might want to ensure that the vehicle you plan to tow your boat with can get the job done, especially when pulling your boat up hills or mountains. Therefore, this is one of the most important things to consider before you buy your boat.

When buying a bass boat you need to ask yourself this question before buying your choice of boat: What body of water will I be fishing in? You should consider buying a large boat, probably a minimum of 19-feet when fishing on large bodies of water. If the areas you will be fishing in were small rivers and lakes, a smaller boat with a small outboard motor would be the right choice.

There are also different kinds of materials from which a boat is made. One is made from aluminum and the other made from fiberglass, each with its pros and cons. Buying used bass boats are obviously a lot less expensive than buying a new one, and used boats tend to hold their value much better. However, there are also some disadvantages. Outboard engines are known for being short lived. If you are planning to buy a used boat, you should buy one from someone you know and trust.

• Do not drink alcoholic beverages when boating.
• Always do pre-boating safety checks.
• Avoid running too close to other boater or anglers.

The use of a bow-mounted trolling motor greatly simplifies a boat's positioning for effective fishing.

• Deep submerged structure - Position the boat directly over the structure and fish vertically.
• Point - Position the boat to follow the contour of the point around at the depth the fish are using.
• Heavy current - When facing a strong current use your boat's front and rear anchors to hold the boat above the area where you intend to fish.
